Nikolaos Papanikolaou is Group Leader of the Computational Clinical Imaging Group and PI in oncologic Imaging at the Centre for the Unknown, Champalimaud Foundation, Lisbon/Portugal and collaborating Affiliated Scientist at FORTH. His research interests are focused on the development of clinical models based on Machine and Deep Learning algorithms. Dr Papanikolaou studied biomedical engineering at the Technological Institute of Athens (Greece) and obtained his PhD from the Medical School of University of Crete (Greece). He has published more than 200 papers in peer reviewed international journals book chapters and international conferences (h-index 30, number of citations 2989), and has delivered more than 100 invited lectures in international congresses and educational courses. He was a member of the editorial board of European Radiology and of abdominal subcommittee of European Congress of Radiology (ECR) from 2007-2009. He has been awarded several scientific prizes, has received 2 research scholarships from ECR and is an honorary member of the Spanish Society of Gastrointestinal Radiology. His research focuses on the development and validation of imaging biomarkers on cancer applications. He has also initiated the development of a Radiomics Network comprising luminary clinical sites in US and Europe to advance research in that area of Radiomics. He is the Section Editor in Radiomics, Machine Learning and AI, in “Cancer Imaging” the official journal of International Cancer Imaging Society, of which recently he was elected as Fellow.
