Welcome
Dear visitors,
It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to the official website of the new Interinstitutional and English-speaking Master’s Degree Program “Cutting Edge Technologies in Vision Sciences”, a joint academic initiative of the University of Crete and the Foundation for Research and Technology – Hellas (FORTH).
This postgraduate program builds upon the legacy and experience of the long-established MSc in “Optics and Vision,” and emerges as a dynamic evolution designed to meet the scientific and technological challenges of the 21st century. It brings together a diverse group of academic departments – the School of Medicine, the Department of Materials Science and Technology, and the Department of Mathematics and Applied Mathematics – to offer an interdisciplinary, research-oriented, and internationally competitive curriculum.
The human visual system is a unique and highly complex interface between physics, biology, medicine, and cognitive science. Understanding its function and disorders requires a multifaceted approach that combines knowledge from fields such as neuroscience, ophthalmology, optics, imaging technology, applied mathematics, materials science, and biotechnology. Our program reflects precisely this spirit of interdisciplinary synergy.
Delivered entirely in English, the program is designed to attract postgraduate students from Greece and abroad who seek to deepen their understanding and advance their skills in the rapidly evolving domain of vision sciences. Whether your interests lie in clinical applications, basic research, or technological innovation, this program will provide you with the academic foundation and research exposure necessary to pursue careers in academia, industry, or healthcare.
One of our core aims is to cultivate a learning environment that promotes academic excellence, scientific curiosity, and international collaboration. Our faculty members are distinguished researchers and educators, actively engaged in state-of-the-art research projects and equipped to mentor the next generation of scientists and innovators.
On this website, you will find detailed information about the structure of the program, course content, faculty members, admission requirements, and research opportunities. We hope this platform serves as both an informative resource and an invitation to explore what our program has to offer.
I warmly encourage you to join this vibrant academic community and become part of a program that not only reflects the latest advances in vision research and technology but also aspires to contribute meaningfully to science, innovation, and societal well-being.
Sincerely,
Professor Miltiadis Tsilimbaris Scientific
Coordinator of the MSc Program
