Being at the heart of disease-oriented medical research, the program provides outstanding opportunities for translational research in Greece and abroad, to both clinical and basic scientists. Former students of our program already hold positions in the academia, medicine\u00a0or the industrial sector.<\/p>\n The program has been organized in accordance with international standards for graduate education capitalizing on the knowledge that has been acquired from the human genome project and the explosion in the “omics” fields during the past decades. Our staff are experienced teachers, with a wide range of research interests and expertise and strong publication record. In addition to faculty members from the University of Crete, FORTH and other academic\/research centers in Greece, the program has created tight bonds with faculty from well-known Institutions in Europe and the US thus enabling selected students to pursue part of their studies abroad.<\/p>\n The program is based at the Medical School of the University of Crete and is located side-by-side to the 800-bed University Hospital of Heraklion\u00a0and the Schools of Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Computer Science and Materials Science of the University of Crete and the Internationally known Foundation for Research and Technology of Hellas (FORTH).
