The M.A. Program in Ottoman History is organized by the Department of History and Archaeology in partnership with the Institute for Mediterranean Studies/FORTH. The aim of the Program is to train researchers in Ottoman history. To that end, the Program offers courses in (i) history, that familiarize students with the methodological tools of historical research, (ii) Ottoman language, diplomatics and palaeography, and (iii) modern Turkish language or modern Greek language (for native Turkish speakers or those fluent in Turkish). History courses focus on the history of the Ottoman Empire, but also include a course in Byzantine History or in Modern and Contemporary Greek and European History. Students are also required to write an M.A. research thesis.
