Thomas G. Maris

Thomas G. Maris is a Professor of Medical Physics at the Medical School of the University of Crete. He was born in Heraklion, Crete, in 1963. He received his BSc in Physics from the University of Crete in 1985, his M.Sc. in Medical Physics in 1986 from the University of Surrey (UK) and his doctorate (Ph.D) in Medicine in 1997 from the Medical School of the University of Athens. He worked as a Medical Physicist in the Medical Physics department of the University of Athens since 1989. In 1998 he was appointed Medical Physicist at the Medical Physics department of the University Hospital of Heraklion, Crete (PAGNH). In 2003 he was elected Assistant Professor of Medical Physics (permanency in 2008) and in 2015 he was elected Associate Professor of Medical Physics at the Medical School of the University of Crete. He is the author and co-author of more than 100 scientific publications in peer reviewed scientific journals. He has more than 2094 non-self scientific citations in his work (Scopus 05/2020, h-index: 24). He has participated as an invited speaker in more than 50 international scientific conferences/congresses and as an author and co-author in more than 240 oral and poster presentations. He has been a member of the Board of Directors (BoD) of the Hellenic Association of Medical Physicists (HAMP) since 2000 (Chairman: 2010-2012). He is a HAMP delegate for educational matters in the European Federation of Medical Physicists (EFOMP) since 2004. He is a member of the European Society/Congress of Radiology (ESR, ECR). He is jointly possessing one active international patent: (PCT: WO/2015/044781). He is (a): a founder and acting CEO of a spin off (www.marismagnetics.com) and (b): a Co-founder and member of the BoD of a spin out (www.rt-safe.com) companies.His research interests are focused on quantitative MRI (qMRI) with applications in Gel dosimetry, Clinical medical imaging and Hyperthermia.
