Learning Outcomes
This course introduces the student in the field of the mechanistic approach, from the perspective of organic chemistry, of the biosynthesis of natural products, with emphasis on terpenes, steroids, phenolic compounds, as well as natural products deriving via the polyketide and shikimic acid pathways. After successfully completing the course, the students will:
- Possess the basic principles for the biosynthetic pathways of natural products.
- Will be able to predict the biosynthesis of a given natural product depending on it structural characteristics.
Student Performance Evaluation
Oral presentations and written examination.
Prerequisite courses
The student must have a deep knowledge of undergraduate Organic Chemistry courses.
